Virgin Atlantic History and Service

Founded in 1984, Virgin Atlantic is another one of Richard Branson's business ventures which flies out of London Gatwick (LGW) and London Heathrow (LHR) airports. It has a fleet of 34 aircraft which fly to over 30 destinations including North America, Caribbean, Middle East, Asia and Australia.

In its early days British Airways started a negative marketing campaign trying to take down the fledgling airline, but Branson sued and eventually won, leaving BA to pay ~$5M in legal fees, while Branson shared the dividend among his employees.

Virgin Atlantic flights are comfortable and always well staffed. The new Upper Class Suite is extremely comfortable and has the longest beds which lie totally flat.
