Part of the AMR Corporation, it was also responsible for starting the first electronic booking system, Sabre. Since then other booking systems have emerged notably, Galileo/Apollo, Amadeus and Worldspan.

During the attacks of 9/11 American Airlines lost 2 of its aircraft and suffered financial difficulties along with every other airline at the time but made a turnaround to profitability in 2005.

This is the first time Ive flown with American and I liked the service. The seats were a little cramped in economy, but the service was great and the flight arrived on time.
