America West Airlines History and Service

American West was founded in 1983 and operates approximately 145 aircraft to 95 destinations including Mexico, Hawaii and Japan. The fleet is made up of Boeing 747s and Airbus 320s among others, which were bought from other airlines. America West has had its fair share of financial problems due to its aggressive growth strategy and operated under bankruptcy from 1991 to 1994. It had major portions previously owned by Continental and Mesa Airlines, but in 1995 it merge with US Airways and in 2007 the name America West is scheduled to disappear and it will be operated under the US Airways name and livery.
