Alaska Airlines History and Service

Based in Seattle, Washington, this airline started back in 1932 as McGee Airways, then over the years and through a number of mergers and acquisitions it wound up being part of the holding company Alaska Air Group in 1985. It employs approx 10,000 staff and has a fleet of approximately 115 aircraft (with over 80 Boeing 737s) serving 80 destinations in the United States, Canada and Mexico. International flights are provided from Los Angeles airport (LAX) to various cities in Mexico including Cancun, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico City and Guadalajara among others.

Alaska Airlines has always been known for its great service and early adoption of technology. It was one of the first airlines to offer online booking capability on its website.

When many airlines are having financial difficulties, Alaska Airlines doesn't seem to be suffering the same fate as its recent $2.3 billion order of 35 additional Boeing 737-800s is scheduled to arrive and be put in service through the next six years.
